Roof Replacement in Georgetown, TX After Hail Damage

This roof replacement in Georgetown started with a homeowner worried about storm damage. Our inspection confirmed hail impacts across the roof, shingles that had lifted and stopped sealing, and damaged underlayment beneath them. Once the old roof came off, we found where that water had been going: two sections of rotted decking. We replaced the damaged wood, rebuilt the roof from the deck up, and had the new shingles on in a single day.

What Our Inspection Found on This Georgetown Roof

We document every roof before we recommend anything. On this Georgetown home, our free inspection turned up four problems that, together, meant patching was no longer an option.

Loose Chimney Flashing

How these problems work together: Hail knocks granules loose and bruises the shingle mat, which weakens the adhesive strip that holds each shingle down. Once shingles lift, wind-driven rain gets underneath them. The underlayment is the last line of defense, and on this roof it was already damaged. That’s how water reaches the wood decking, often for months before a stain ever shows on a ceiling.

Hidden Damage: Rotted Decking Under the Old Roof

Some damage can’t be seen until the shingles come off. During tear-off, our crew found two areas where the decking had rotted through: one beside the chimney, where the flashing had failed, and one at the eave below the lifted shingles.

Roofing over soft or rotted wood means nails won’t hold and the new roof can sag or leak. We cut out each damaged section back to solid wood, installed new decking, and photographed every repair so the homeowner could see exactly what was done and why.

Protecting the Home During Tear-Off

This project was completed before we added the Catch-All debris netting system to our shingle replacements, but the home was still fully protected. Before tear-off, our crew laid heavy tarps across the lawn and flower beds, covered the shrubs, and leaned plywood over the windows and garage door to shield them from falling debris.

Today, every shingle replacement also gets Catch-All netting. Protecting the home has always been part of the job.

From Tear-Off to New Roof in One Day

Our crew was on site and setting up before 6:30 in the morning. Here’s how the day went:

  1. Protect the property. Tarps, plywood, and shrub covers went down, and the dump trailer was staged in the driveway.
  2. Tear off to the deck. The old shingles and damaged underlayment came off completely.
  3. Replace the rotted decking. Both damaged sections were cut out and replaced with new decking.
  4. New underlayment and flashing. Fresh underlayment went down across the deck, and the chimney was re-flashed.
  5. New shingles and ridge vent. New architectural shingles went on, along with ridge vent along the top and pipe vents painted to match.

By mid-afternoon the new roof was finished and the site was cleaned up.

Rebuilding the Low-Slope Section

The low-slope section over the back of the home had its own problems, including a split seam visible during the inspection. We rebuilt it with a new white membrane, which reflects heat and ties cleanly into the new shingle roof.

The Finished Roof

This roof replacement in Georgetown gave the home a warm new look. The tan architectural shingles suit the brick, and the clean ridge lines replace the faded gray roof at a glance. More importantly, the roof is now sound from the decking up, with no hidden rot, no lifted shingles, and new protection at every vulnerable spot.

Roof Replacement in Georgetown: Common Questions

Hail damage is often covered, but it depends on your policy and the extent of the damage. We work with all insurance companies and document damage with detailed photos, which helps you understand what you’re filing for. Your policy and adjuster determine the final decision.

We stop, photograph it, and show you. Then we cut out only the damaged sections and replace them with new decking before any new roofing goes down. Roofing over rotted wood is never an option.

From the ground, look for shingles with uneven edges or ones that look wavy or out of line, especially near the edges of the roof. After a windy day, shingles in the yard are a clear sign. The best way to know is a close inspection, since lifted shingles can look normal from the street.

Many homes, including this one, are finished in a single day, even with decking repairs. Larger or more complex roofs, steep pitches, and weather can add time. We’ll give you an expected timeline before work begins.

Yes. Along with Georgetown, we work throughout Round Rock, Hutto, Leander, Cedar Park, Salado, and across Central Texas.
